The Cats

2 cats snuggled in a windowsil

Keeping me alive means helping me keep these cats alive, and vice-versa. If I get more money, I can help more cats. And help myself. To help more cats. It’s a vicious cycle I hope you can contribute to.

Strays are fed on a couple bags of dry food a week, as well as supplemented with the house cat wet food for in-need cases and those more prone to being dehydrated. France has a particularly harsh disposable pet owning culture, and I’ve witnessed more animal abuse here than I ever did in the US. Finding homes for adult or special needs cats is near impossible, but I try to help who I can.

The House Cats:

an orange cat with crinkly whiskers

Benedict Oliver Owen McQueen – “Benny”

A handsome, rescued throw-away from a Donskoy breeder. Covered in curly fur until his first birthday when it started to fall out to more resemble his hairless mother. Soft to the touch, emotional magnet, loud yeller. Enjoys a good smacky game and occasional parkour.

grey and white cat sitting on a cat tree

Gwendolyn Ursula McQueen – “Gwen”

My beautiful, silly girl. A rescued throw-away from a Sphynx breeder. A lap lover and lazy lounger with a surprising high-jump. Always sure to keep naked Benny warm on cold days, as she has enough fur for the both of them.

a black and tan puppy

Georgiana Eugenie McQueen – “Georgie”

Cat in training. English Cocker Spaniel of unknown parentage. Current personality is “puppy”.

Window Café patrons:

a fluffy black and white cat licking their nose, an orange cat watches them from inside a window
needs a home!

“Whiskey”

It took me 9 months to get my first nose boop. Now I’m occasionally offered belly rubs. Whiskey is a stray who is getting rougher and rougher as time wears on. We don’t have anywhere to house him and no local rescues are keen to help, but I will trap him and pay initial medical bills for someone who could offer Whiskey a safe, quiet home anywhere in France. Or Europe. Or anywhere.

“Phanny”

Named for her half-mask, Phantom of the Opera, this girl loves to sleep on top of cars on warm sunny days and appreciates a good treat. Friendly, healthy, no kittens, and groomed, she’s not currently at-risk and is a welcome patron of the window café.

an orange and white cat outside an open window

“Bruno”

My neighbors on the corner moved in with this cat last year. It’s an non-neutered male, stays out all night, fights with other cats over food, pisses on my windows, and has repeatedly gotten violent when refused entry into my house. He’s also a sweetheart who is desperate for snuggles and food. Update: moved away with his “owners”.

“Chompy”

A cat who lives somewhere across the river. His ears are bitten down presumably from many other fights though I’ve never seen him start one. I think he only finishes them. He has no fear, but is also very friendly and loves scritches and snacks. He comes by anywhere from a few times a week to a few times a day. He has owners who take him to the vet when he is injured.

“Foxy”

This friendly bugger will trip you down the street to get belly rubs, and will jump into your house if you leave a window open. They used to have a collar, but now they don’t. Foxy seems healthy and doesn’t fight for food, so their owners may have just given up on collaring.

a dark calico cat at a window

“Manon”

The very first patron of the Window Cafe. She’s long moved on to a good home, but her inspiration has fed many a hungry cat.
